A discussion with the UN Special Rapporteur on the rights to freedom of peaceful assembly and of association Clément Nyaletsossi Voule on his new report to the United Nations (UN) Human Rights Council (HRC) on the protection of human rights in the context of peaceful protest in crisis situations as requested by the HRC resolution 44/20 of 17 July 2020.
This side-event during the 50th Session of the UN Human Rights Council will discuss the important role peaceful protests has in crisis response, crisis prevention and in strengthening democracy in general, as well as for a sustainable peace-building. It will highlight specific challenges related to conducting peaceful protests in different crisis situations. Finally, it will expand on issues and the recommendations outlined by the SR FoAA in the report to different stakeholders, to strengthen protection of human rights in the context of peaceful protest in crisis situations.
